Week 3 Update

Roof Tile Material

This week I dabbled for the first time in substance designer. I set a goal of perfecting one tile and then simply tile it, but however when I did this is didn't feel realistic. So, I went ahead and created three different tile design's one undamaged and two with some damage, to create some variation. I got to grips with the program very easily and went ahead and created the whole thing. In no way is it finished, there is a lot of tweaking to be done, but to have a texture to an also complete stage at week three is great progress.

Lighting Update

Lighting is something that I am always going to be changing. This week there were minor changes to the lighting, tweaks were made to the end of the canal as last weeks lighting pass made it a little too dark. Also, as the reflections were added to the water this week, I was able to recreate the main light beam on the water. I did this by adding a spotlight to the scene and placing it just above the water as if the attenuation skimming the surface and set the roughness of the light to max.

Reflections

One of the main things about a scene with water is reflections and this week I was able to implement mine. I simply added a planar reflection capture to the scene just above my water and messed around with the settings so it was able to capture the hole of the buildings and not just half of them. Also, I tried to concentrate detailed reflection into certain area's. In the images below you'll see that those areas are the bridge, arch, and cafe balcony.

Boat Animations Finished

This week there was also a slight adjustment to the boat animations. last week they were all set to the same animation/matinee so they move in sink, this obviously looked very strange, so I went ahead and made custom animation for each boat. This really helps pull the scene together and was definitely worth doing.
